With the cooperation of fall weather, both Jeffco Open Space and Clear Creek County will be closing sections of the trail on Monday and Tuesday, 9/18 and 9/19 of 2017.
Access to Peaks to Plains Trail from Mayhem Gulch trailhead will be blocked down from the restrooms and through the underpass for staining and maintenance. In addition, Clear Creek County will be closing their section of the trail from the county line to the west side of the box culvert.
Parking is available at Cannonball Flats and the Oxbow lots. However, if parking at the Oxbow, be advised only about ¾ of a mile of trail will be accessible at this time.
Please plan accordingly and thanks for your patience.
Repairs to the segment of the Peaks to Plains Trail in Clear Creek County are complete. The entire 3-mile stretch of trail is now open through both Jefferson and Clear Creek Counties!
The Welch Ditch is located just west of downtown Golden in Clear Creek Canyon. An historic landmark in Jefferson County, the irrigation system was constructed in the 1870’s and primary access has been closed since 2013 due to structural damage and rock falls. Jeffco Open Space is currently undergoing the process to convert the Welch Ditch into a trail that will connect the Peaks to Plains Trail with the Chimney Gulch Trail. Planning and design will begin in 2017.
It was cold, snowy and icy in Clear Creek Canyon this morning, but that doesn’t mean construction stops.
Work continues on the section of trail at the county line currently closed for repairs.
