What goes into a trail? Before the work of moving dirt and preparing a surface for trail users can begin, it takes years of planning. It takes cooperation. And of course it takes money.
We expect that Clear Creek Canyon visitors will be able to enjoy a new creekside trail by summer 2015. Without a $4.6 million grant awarded by Great Outdoors Colorado as part of the River Corridor Initiative, there would have been no trail, at least anytime soon.
Clear Creek County Open Space and Jeffco Open Space partnered on a successful grant application, capped by a presentation to the GOCO Advisory Committee in April 2012. Watch the presentation, including a Google Earth tour of the canyon and initial proposed trail alignment, in this YouTube video.
A feature article in the February 2014 issue of Parks & Recreation Magazine describes how the video elements of the presentation came together.
It’s all part of the tale of this trail that’s unfolding on this blog and on the ground.
